Visa Office......

Hi there,

After emailing the my London visa office they kindly told me that my application is almost complete, should be finalized within the next week! :D So then I will receive a confirmation of permanent residency...and then what?

I'm in Canada as a visitor, so do I just need to go to the border (easy, since I'm in Ottawa) and get stamped in? Or do I need to send my passport to London? I had a work permit until last week and my employer would have liked to keep me, but without a work permit I couldn't work. They said though, that if I get my pr soon, they can take me back. So now I'm wondering what kind of time line I'm looking at, if I get the confirmation of permanent residency let's say next week? Can I start working right after receiving the letter?

Thank again in advance :)

Yes exactly (what you said first). It's called 'flag-poling', you drive to the U.S. border and tell them you're just turning around so you can go through "landing procedures" for Canada.

Once you get CoPR you can flagpole at the border and complete your landing. It doesn't take long, the only real delay is if there are other people doing the same thing or the border crossing is busy. Once you have landed you need to get your new SIN from Service Canada which you could do the same day if you have time - same procedure as when you got your SIN on your work permit.

As long as your have your new SIN you could be back at work the day after landing.

Good luck and Congrats!
