Hello,

I have a work permit because of ex-partner. She had a work permit here. We lived together for a couple years.
Back in Feb 2015, I've got my open work permit as accompanying common-law partner valid to mid august 16.

We split up back in December, and in January she left Canada.
I had and still have a job, my company ready to sponsor me. We have already sent an application for LMIA.
But when I started to fill up my application for visa extension my lawyer told me that it's illegal for me to be here since we are separated.

Is there any law saying that I should leave the country if we break up?
What is the best way to get my work permit? should i go back home and wait until we get approval on LMIA?(It's gonna be not before November)
Or should i send the application for visa extension?

Thank you
