Yes I have looked at the guides before but I just want to know from a personal perspective what you all have notarized or certified.
Btw I am the US if that helps any.

Do I need a certified copy of my birth certificate? If not, does the copy have to be notarized?

Are there any cheaper places to get things notarized at then with a lawyer?

The only form we had notarized was the Declaration of Common Law.

You can look online to see who are licensed notaries. Just google "notaries 'city you're in'". In the US almost every bank has one. We went to our bank and a guy notarized for free since we're customers. I think it's common for the post office to have one, and also insurance companies. They're everywhere!

Hope this helps!

What about the birth certificate? Did you just photocopy it or does it have to be a certified copy?
Thanks for the help.

Hi there!
We just photocopied everything - didn't have anything notarised.

We needed a few letters to prove that I will be returning to Canada, but just sent the originals of those (not notarised).

Not sure if this helped? Good luck!!
:)

Hi,

There are several posts in this Forum on this topic.
If the checklist from your visa office had mentioned for any document "notarized", then you have to do that.
If the check list says only "copy" of ---- then you have to send a simple photocopy.

I never submitted any notarized or certified photo copy.

You may take appropriate decision.

I never included a copy of my birth certificate. I did, however, make a copy of the main page of my Canadian passport and include that, unnotarized. If I remember correctly, the only form that was required to be notarized was the common law declaration page.

Well I will be applying inland. It doesn't really specify on that list as it does on the outland checklist does.

if you are in Canada, go to the closest MP's office, and they will notarize them for you free of charge. we did exactly the same with all our paperwork that needed to be notarized.

Thank you for that suggestion. I will keep that in mind for sure when I need something notarized.
