What do they do in Visa Offices? How long do they actually take to process files (straight forward ones)?
We have seen sponsorship approval takes few days (straight forward files) once the file is processed

depends which visa office.
sometimes some take longer because the police checks are more extensive in certain countries than others.
it also depends how many files they get and how many officers they have employed to work on the files.
:)

What police checks? We already submit police certificates.

you asked what they do in visa offices in general... you didnt specify one specific country.
so i said police checks usually differ from office to office so that makes the time frames different for different countries.

I think they keep your file till its turn then they start processing it. How long does it take them?
For example we know that sponsorship approval takes few days but your file is kept in line.
How long does Ottawa pilot office take for processing? What do they do?

you are referring to step two correct?

well during step two, when they receive your file someone opens it to make sure all the documents and forms are still there, than they assign the case to an officer.
than it goes in line and when the officer opens it,
they have to check the relationship evidence, and make sure everything is genuine, they have to make sure your police checks all come up clean, they check your medical results to make sure everything comes up clean. they have to document everything they do regarding your file, in some cases they will contact you and send you an AOR saying they received it, in other cases they wont.
they may email you if they need any extra documents or if they request an interview they will usually do it before they check the medical and police checks but not always.
than when everything is complete and clean and good, they will approve or deny the application.

i think ottawa takes about 10 months to process step 2 according to cic, but many cases go through in maybe 6-8 months.
i hope this answers your question

Just because you submitted a police certificate doesn't mean they won't do their own background checks... didn't you include a background declaration and just above where your spouse signed it it says...

We were able to estimate that it takes few days for straight forward application in the sponsorship stage Just by comparing those who received their AOR and the approval. In most cases the approval was few days after receiving the AOR. However, the sponsorship approval takes more than those few days which means the file stayed dead waiting its turn.

an AOR for stage 1 or 2?

I am trying to do the same for stage 2

oh, for stage 1 we didnt even get an AOR, ive heard some people have gotten them and others not.

aswell for stage 2 we didnt get one again, but that was weird.

for mexico visa office some people get AOR 2.5 weeks after the file is transfered and others 2.5-3 months!!

its really staggered for mexico city, and of course like us we didnt even receive one at all.

I find it all so inconsistent.
