what can be used as the national identity document required in IMM8000

To Chinese citizen, could my passport or the Chinese ID card be used as the national identity document? Or it is better to use my Canadian drivers`licence? Please advice. Thank you!

I guess I will need to use something issued by my country or origin then.. Do I need to include a photocopy of the ID card? It will be a tricky to get it translated and notarized. Please advice.

No. The point is, if your country doesn't have a National Identity Card, it is "not applicable," N/A.

Refer to the Document Checklist to find what documents you need.

National ID is on the Document Checklist (under "Identity and Civil Status Documents"). So if you have a National ID Card, you need to provide a photocopy.

I am not sure why you think there is no one who can translate a document in Chinese. I suggest you locate a certified translator in your province - that way you can skip the affidavit. Google the "name of your province" + "translators association" (for example, if you google "Ontario translators association" you will find the ATIO website). Go to their website, find the directory, and then find a translator.

Is this a pain in the neck? Sure. But you really don't have any excuses...

You will need: a certified copy of the Chinese National ID Card
the Original English-language translation
(Translator's affidavit, if not translated by certified translator with Provincial/Territorial Translator's Association)
