What backlogs exactly are?

I have this question which i am not sure of. about backlogs? what backlogs actually are ?
for eg : i have completed my bca and mca with trials in 3rd sem in one subject now i have completed that subject clearly and completed my study now does that count as backlogs?
or the no of attempts i did in clearing that subject is backlog ?
or the trials ?
or simply backlogs are the subject that i couldnt clear ?

Backlog is provided by college or university where u studied. It includes your whole education details - starting year to end year, number of reappears, number of reappear subjects, result etc.
