Hi Everyone,

I am wondering, if there is any way to work on TRV or Convert TRV to OWP or Something so that Spouse can work in Canada.
When Spousal PR is in progress.

I was told by one of my friends that : Visitor Record at the Port of Entry gives OWP and OHIP privileges. Not sure how far this is true.

BTW, I am Citizen.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks,

it is certainly not true that a visitor visa or a visitor record allows a person to receive an owp and OHIP. either your friend is confused or they don't know what they are talking about. Visitors can not apply for ohip, there are very strict eligiblity documentation requirements, and a visitor visa/record is not accepted. an inland PR applicant can apply for an OWP at the time they submit their pr application, and will receive it about 4 months after submitting the application. if the OWP application was not submitted upfront, then *i think* the applicant needs to wait until they receive AIP to qualify for one. others will confirm that detail.

Outland applicants are not eligible for a work permit. they can not work in canada until they are approved and landed as a PR.

For both the inland and outland stream, the applicant can apply for a work permit through an economic stream, either express entry or some other foreign worker program. this will not affect the spousal PR application.

if your spouse's application is being processed in NDVO, as your timeline suggests, that means the application is outland and they are not eligible for a work permit.

your citizenship status doesn't not matter. YOU can work in canada, your spouse can not yet.

thanks a lot for detailed info.

BTW, if i convert to Inland ? will that help to get WP faster ?

I know, at the moment NDVO is processing April 2016 applications and couple of months they may process June Applications.

What do you suggest bro ?

You can't convert an outland app to an inland one. If you already applied outland you'd need to cancel it completely, then start from scratch again with a brand new inland app.

In general there is no way to work in Canada with outland app in process unless you find an employer willing to go through difficult LMIA process to hire you. You'd need to have some specific skills in demand to be successful at this.

Thank you.

Seems I have to wait for PR.

Your friend doesn't understand immigration law and is confusing spousal sponsorship rules with foreign worker rules. This isn't someone you want to be listening to for advice. OWP and OHIP are not available to you. You'll have to wait until you are a PR.

Makes sense. He was on WP. I know this but was curious to know, what's it.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion.
