Question asked in Quora : [Link] : What are the typical situations that new immigrants face in Canada?

Assuming that the question is asked by a fresh PR.

Good Situation : Getting a great job in under 4 months.

Bad to Terrible Situation : Fear of being discriminated.

Terrible Situation : Not being able to find job.

Bad Situation : Feeling home sick.

What separates the men from the boys is how you respond to these situations and how can you handle the downside of being terrible. Remember surround your self with great people who are positive and uplifting. This in my opinion is the easiest way to beat the above situations.

Canada is a great country and is very tolerant to immigrants “remember the countries defense min (punjabi immigrants) came from a very very modest back ground in punjab” there are amazing stories where every one passed through the above and have come trumps!

Not all cities are the same. Integration into smaller city communities are much harder than large cities. The bigger the easier. This is also true for economic needs, unless you have specific skills that are useful in small cities stick with a big one. Cost of living may be lower in smaller cities but so are income potential and opportunities.

Lifestyle in smaller cities is much better, money is less. If lifestyle is important, consider that. If you are unsure where to start, I would suggest moving to a big city first and then figuring it out from there.

Knowing how cold it is (the numbers) and experiencing it, are two very different things. If you are coming from a country with a tropical or subtropical climate, you will suffer in winter. Snow is usually only pretty for the first year, if you are lucky the second. After that it is just work, unless you can get yourself actively involved in winter sports like skating or skiing... If you come from a warm country your clothes will not be good enough for winter guaranteed. It is best for you to save your money and buy winter clothing in Canada.

One of the costs of living in a highly developed 1st world country is that it costs a lot. There will always be more things you have to pay for than you expect. Everything outside of the conventional norm is also much more difficult. Entrepreneurship, difficult. Working for a boss your whole life, easy. Society is not set up to really accommodate out of the box anything. Stay within the lines and it will be pretty easy. Go out. Load of effort will be exerted to get you back into the lines.

All round Canada offers a good and safe life. But you will have to bring your A-game for sure.

Good luck.

@newmecca thank you for your reply. I being an entrepreneur all along would agree that it is difficult but lot more easier to get off the blocks in Canada. (better regulations)

A Game for sure is the need of the hour.
