What are Ratings?

The rating are like feedback positive means you left a good comment and someone gave you good karma. Negative comments mean you probably left a bad comment and someone gave you bad karma.

It doesn't necessarily work this way... You may say something that is not bad or doesn't hurt anybody however people will still give you negative "karma" just "for fun", stupidness.

The piece of advice I give you is, don't worry about the rates you get, it won't affect you application/life/relationship... AT ALL!!

loool don't worry at least u got a positive rating too don't worry, i myself asked the same things i'm -2 already don't know why from where; i didn't argue with anyone, i just tried to give feedback for my best knowledge or ask questions about my problems; in conclusion, some people r stupid don't care about them

missmini is right.....i just dont care about it anymore ... trust me when i was newbie in the forum i used to judge members by rating (sayin to my self: "ooh this person has high ratings so whatever he/she is saying is right") .....LOLL @ me i was so dum ...slowly u will understand .... don't go on ratings ... all the members are very helpful, always guide you through the application. so just take a chill pill

Some members are very senior and experienced and i really appreciate for their time in helping us around here ....... THANKyouuuuu everyone

It means if you tell someone truth or give correct information, and is against their application/situation. You will get a negative rating from those people around here.

Besides this all: people that think negative of you will rather rate you then the ones that think positive of you.

I emailed 'admin' a couple weeks back, and got no response.

I sent the following:

I was just curious if anyone has considered turning off the Ratings feature on the forums? It would seem a lot of people don't much care for it, as they don't accurately represent whether or not a poster is helpful or was previously helpful. There are a lot of people giving good help and advice, and receiving negative ratings, from people who don't like the advice, don't speak good English, etc. I have well over 200 posts, and have 13 positive and 12 negative ratings. That would suggest that 50% of the time, my answers are unhelpful, rude, irrelevant, etc, which is simply not the case.

Can this feature please be turned off? I believe a better way to tell whether or not someone is helpful/accurate/etc, is by their post count, which is already visible to everyone. These are the people that post more often, trying to help, being knowledgeable, etc.

I believe the ratings system is dumb, and should be turned off. They're a highly inaccurate representation of a person's ability to be helpful or not, and to people not familiar with the purpose, it can imply that a person whom is otherwise very active and helpful, is one who gives out bad advice, isn't knowledgeable, etc, and not to trust them.

I believe that if they were going to at least keep it then they should offer a better explanation about it. I feel like whether they rate you good or bad, there should be a box that explains why you were rated that way. Then not allow them to rate unless they give a reason. That way if you were to do something good, you will know what you were doing right and it you were rated negatively then you would be given a reason why you were and maybe have the ability to correct the things that weren't maybe as helpful. Other than that, I think they don't give as a representation of the advice that is being given. If we are being rated, we should be told what it is about and if not then don't have it all as Pharoh stated. This is just my 2 cents on it though.

I think it would be better to see the overall rating of each post. Then you can see which posts you get rated down for and if other people see that your post has been rated negatively for no reason, they can fix it for you.

If you want to get a hold of the admin, report this thread and write a comment for him in the comment box.

I reported the thread, as you suggested. I like the idea of rating threads down/up, but I'm not sure how difficult that'd be to implement with this system. I'm not entirely sure it has a native functionality like that, it'd need to be written. It sounds like something along the line of Digg/Reddit, though. I like it.

LOL, Dont worry.. I am not doing so hot either. Everyone who wrote above me is right, it doesnt look like it even matters. I am not concerned, was jus curious what it meant.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER ask about ratings or comment on a thread about ratings. Your rating is guaranteed to drop if you do!! ;D Watch mine drop from -21 ...
