Dear Sir & Ma'am,

My husband is the principal applicant and he will be processing his ECA for WES.
As his spouse, can I wave the ECA requirement in our immigrant application for Canada?
However, I have plans to process mine as well later on.

Please advice.

Thank you.

You only have to get an ECA for your education if you want to claim additional points. That being said, if you submit a profile & get an ITA without an ECA for your degree, there is no sense getting an ECA for yours later.

You will need to get an ECA for your foreign degree, diploma or certificate if:

  1. you want to be considered for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) under Express Entry, and
  2. you want to receive Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for your foreign education
    • for yourself as an Express Entry candidate, or
    • for your spouse or common-law partner coming with you to Canada.
