Hi All, posting this on behalf of a friend :

My friend got COPR (before 18th March, 2020) and due to pandemic could not travel within the said timelines. Due to which it got expired in September. He got married in Nov,2020 and duly informed IRCC through webform and multiple emails to the respective Visa office but did not get any response.
However, in December 2020 he received a 4 pointer email if he is willing to travel. He duly replied with his change in marital status and the quarantine plan willing to adhere and within 3 days, he received an Authorization Letter.

However, since the AL was received for only the applicant, he again wrote back to IRCC informing about this and requesting to initiate the spouse's PR process to ensure they are able to travel together. But no responses were received in 60 days and therefore, he travelled alone before AL expired.

What should he do now to call his spouse, should the spouse start a separate "Non-accompanying spousal" application or should they start the process through sponsorship program ? Also, would he be eligible to call his spouse through family unification program?

Thanks!

A person is supposed to add a spouse to their application before landing. I personally would not have traveled and landed in Canada on a COPR issued for a single person. I would have waited for a response from IRCC.

I think the best option at this point is to consult with a lawyer.
