Hello Everyone,

My Common Law Partner and I applying for her to obtain PR status. I've been going through the checklist filling everything and there are a few things that we've had issues with. I called IRCC and they more or less repeated what was said on the website. I guess they didn't want to say any specifics because anything they say they may be held accountable for.

We have been living together for 2 and a half years now and most of the doucment has been easy. We are having issues with Page 6/6 of IMM5589E the first part asking about:

Joint ownership of residential property or joint residential leases or joint rental agreements listing both the sponsor and the principal
applicant; (Minimum 1 document).
Proof of joint utilities accounts (electricity, gas, telephone); (Minimum 1 document).
Important documents for you and your sponsor showing the same address, such as copies of Government issued identification
documents: driver's licenses, insurance policies, etc. (Minimum 1 document).

Our issue is that we do live together but it's with my entire family. I send etransfers to my mother for everything including rent, telephone bill, gas, electricity, internet, etc. it's all in her name. We definitely have important documents showing we live at the same address, we have dozens, but we need documents from the other 2 categories. Even if I find something I'll have to include a letter at the end stating that my mother is the account holder for these things and we simple transfer money monthly and perhaps even provide bank statements showing that I'm paying her monthly.

I'm considering that my girlfriend and I come off my family's telephone plan and get our own but not sure if that's going to be possible because our telephone contracts has another year on them. Does anyone know another way around this, something that I could easily sign up for for the purposes of getting through this process.

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Edward

You both are on the same telephone plan? Well that is a shared utility and it is also what I sent in with our application. We are on a family plan and my father is the plan holder, but it is still a shared utility and we all have to pay our portion of it.

Are one of you receiving benefits from a job? Do you have the other listed as a beneficiary? That would also satisfy a requirement.

How about car insurance? Do you have them listed on your policy? There's another requirement if you have that.

If all else fails, include a well written letter from yourself and your mother explaining your circumstances, and show documentation of the e-transfers paying for rent and the other utilities.

You got this!

I only provided a joint bank account, screenshots of facebook profiles showing that our marriage is public, notarized letters from parents on both sides stating we are genuine and a notarized letter from my parents stating we live with them rent free. I ended up receiving aor

Also, I included letters explaining why I could not supply certain things

Thanks everyone, I'll ensure to provide a letter explaining my situation and provide as much as I can.

She currently has her own job and receives her own benefits, I'm not sure if I could have her under mine as well. I don't have a vehicle, I'm currently a second driver on my parent's vehicle and she does not have her driver's license in Canada.

Go open a joint bank account

I also do not qualify for my benefits, I've recently graduated from college and only been here for 2 months. I've held a job throughout my time at school with a couple breaks in employment.

I have a joint account with her but I've also read that a joint account will not be considered as a utility or a rent. Perhaps I'm over thinking things here.

You should get the notarized letter from your parents stating you guys live with them. This is a valid reason for not having joint lease/ownership
