Wasn't asked to declare goods carried or to be followed

Hi all
We did our(soft) landing last month at Pearson airport and now we are back in our country of residence. At the time of landing we were not asked about the form that declares the value of goods to follow. And we were also a bit nervous about landing formalities so we didn't ask the IO about it.
Now the situation is that we plan to move permanently next year and not to mention will be carrying the household goods,clothes ,kids' toys and some jewellery also.
So I am afraid that we will have to pay heavy duty on all these items when we reenter Canada.
Any idea how the duty can be avoided on these goods on our re entry.

I did my landing a few weeks ago and had prepared the BSF forms and handed it over to the CBSA Officer. While handing the receipt back he mentioned:
1) If you're using a moving company - hand this over to them so that you're not asked to pay duty for the items in the list.
2) I asked if I'm bringing it over myself - he was casual about it - "yeah, carry it incase they want to have a look".

When my wife landed the next week - CBSA officer did not even look at her BSF forms and said "if you're carrying/bringing the stuff with you no need for these".

So there you go - I'm sure they won't ask you to pay any duty for your personal items. Though it would be good if you could prepare the BSF186 form ( http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/bsf186-eng.pdf ) when you're landing next and also keep a list/receipts of expensive items like jewellery.

Don't worry it'll all be fine. It's not that difficult to digest that people will be carrying personal belongings with them selves while moving. With a moving company its a diff story - thats why they need that list then.

They shouldn't have any problems AFAIK. Thousands of PRs and Citizens land everyday all throughout Canada - just imagine if they start charging everybody for their clothes toys etc. lol.

This is my take on the situation but I'm sure someone will have their own experiences to share.

No. They won't. You are not required to submit Goods to Follow at the time of Soft landing. It's only required at the time of "Settling" i.e Hard Landing.

Hello @Serihyt, I am facing the exact same situation in two weeks... And I am a bit stressed. Could you please confirm that you were able to hand the list of personal belongings on the second (hard) landing? I am looking for that information on the CBSA but I can find nothing. Regards.
