Yeah! Check that out! When my husband wanted to add me to his work insurance, his office said that I need to get a health card first.
Well they allowed me to add him, you guys are right! There is not a lot he is eligible for until he gets his health card. Thanks for pointing that out!

I'm so excited that he lands today :)

I got my wife health insurance for emergency purposes. costing about $90 a month for 3 months... I think it's worth it since a hospital bill and a few tests can run you at least $2000 - $5000 dollars. I know someone with $4000 bill when their spouse got sick and had to be taken to the hospital. It's rare but winter is here and a simple fall can cost a lot of money for cast and x-rays etc. My opinion ofcourse :)

I wonder they say it can take up to 3 months but does it really take that long or most people got it sooner?

You can apply for the Health Card on day 1 if you choose to (though you need some documentation that it doesn't allow you; i.e. a monthly mailed bank statement to show residency in Ontario) and you receive the card 4-6 weeks after applying. However, you are not eligible to use the health card until 3 months has passed. Therefore typically you need 3 months of 3rd party insurance coverage to complete the gap in the event that you need medical attention.

My spouse already has a drivers licence in Ontario, I believe that was on the list if accepted documents, so I'm thinking he will be able to apply right away!

Hello everyone!

Just a little bit of an update of how landing went. First, I realize this process can be different for everyone, but I just wanted to let you all know about our experience.

He landed in Montreal, and the immigration line was quite long. Waiting time and processing took him about two hours total. One of the reasons that it took so long, was that we had booked this flight several months ago, and it was really supposed to just be a visit. We had booked a one-way ticket for him to come to Canada in June, as that’s when we thought we could reasonably assume that he would have his COPR.

As well, his PR is conditional upon cohabitation for the first two years, so when the officer noticed that he intended to return for 3 months, they starting questioning him. He had misunderstood what she had said, and though that he would not be able to leave the country for two years.

Eventually the officer called me and explained everything, so I told her that we would be changing our flight so that we will only be apart for 1-2 weeks.
Maybe I didn’t do my research on this topic, but I had never read anything about the 2 year conditional cohabitation. I called CIC who told me that as long as he doesn’t move back permanently and start working there, he should be okay. As well, him and I will be coming back to Canada together in June as we will be attending a wedding. We just already have to different flights booked and it would be too costly to change it at this point.

I did my research after, and if you have lived together for less than 2 years and have no children, the two years of cohabitation will apply to you.

Not that it is a big deal, the two of us are happy to cohabitate, its just that he left Poland with a lot of loose ends, thinking he would be returning for 3 months.

Good luck to everyone who's application is still in process :)

Thanks ! :)) long 8 months of waiting but it is worth it at the end :D
Truthfully 8 months is 8 months too long, but compare to the 18 months now, it's fantastic timeline. :) I'm glad thing have worked out since you were extremely worried. It was just odd that both of us applied literally days apart and the end result wasn't identical.

Happy reunion :)
