People may or may not be aware of this but the online application status tool is not be relied on. Both my oath and my test status updates only appeared AFTER they had taken place. Furthermore both were only received by mail with 10 days notice. If you are traveling or away from home for an extended period of time I strongly advise you get a friend or family member to check your mail regularly.

Follow the rule, if you are travelling for more than 2 weeks, let CIC know.
 
Another big problem is that they still use regular mail notifications, and these letters might be lost before the person is actually informed.

Yes, looks like most people do. I am sure some don't. Nothing wrong with a reminder now and then

This is nothing new. CIC is deliberately and desperately trying hard to catch "people they suspect do not live here" by not updating ecas..we all know that :)
