Hi,

I'm new to the forum and a lot of this and I have some questions.
I never thought about this before but I met my girlfriend in October of 2013 and have been officially dating since March.
She just returned to Japan today as her visa is expiring soon and she would be looking for work in Japan.
We both want her to come back and stay as marriage is an option as well.
Basically, if we want her to come back and stay as a permanent resident, how would I go about doing this?

Any help/information is greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much

At this point, marriage is your only option, if you wish to sponsor her. You would not qualify as a Common-Law couple, because you have not lived together for 1 full year.

Once you are married, you can apply to sponsor her as your spouse, which can be done with either an Inland application, or an Outland application. Read through the very first thread in this forum to get the basic idea of how this works.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info!
I've read over it. What do you think would be the best way to go about doing this?
Marrying in Japan and doing an Outland application?

You've only been "officially dating" for barely 3 months. Before you even think about getting married and applying for PR, spend some more time on your relationship.

If you rush things, do a quick wedding and apply for PR after such a short time dating, that is a huge red flag to CIC as they would question your relationship as one of convenience or just for her to get PR status.

Where you eventually get married doesn't matter, but if you insist on marrying very quickly you need to make sure as many friends/family attend the wedding as possible.

Rob,

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it, you make some valid points.
Spending some more time on relationship would probably be a better choice at this time.
