want to sponsor wife while living in UAE.

Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen living in Abu Dhabi. Is there any way I can sponsor my wife to get her PR visa without having to actually live in Canada? Look, for now I'm an expat. What if I get my residency status back, and start paying taxes? Will that work? We don't plan on getting her citizenship any time soon. When we do, we will move there for good. We are more concerned about being able to go to Canada and back any time we want without having to apply for a visa for her. This is especially important since she may be pregnant and I want our child to be born in Canada. Which leads me to my next question:

If she has a visitor visa, and is pregnant, are they going to give her a hassle if she wants to deliver in Canada? I mean I'm an expat, and she has no status there, so obviously we will be paying for her healthcare. If this is not going to pose any problems, then we can wait for her PR.

If, however, this is going to be a problem, then I really want to get her the PR, but I don't intend to relocate back to Canada. My job currently in the UAE is excellent and I have no prospects in Canada. Any advice?

Bottom line, you don't meet the criteria so the answer is NO. The Act states you have to prove your intention to re-settle in Canada to issue the PR visa to your wife. However, why is it important for your child to be born in Canada? If you are citizen BORN in Canada, then your child will qualify for citizenship through you.

While that's true, but what about my child's child? I am given the option to give birth to a first class citizen or a second class citizen. What if my child in the future has a child in the UAE? The child will be passportless because the UAE doesn't give citizenship to anyone, and Canada... well...

To canuckinuae, since you have no intention of settling in Canada you do not qualify to sponsor your wife. You can apply for a TRV and hope she is accepted and gives birth here. Of course you would have to pay the full cost of the health care. Worrying about your future grandchildren is putting the cart before the horse IMHO but to each their own.

Once your wife is PR, everyday she spends with you outside Canada will be counted as equivalant to be lining in Canada. So when she completes 3 years of PR she can apply for the citizenship even if she has not completed 3 years in canada. But you have to make sure that she has accompanied you during this time. 1. You really don't understand the process do you? You need 3 years of physical residence in Canada in the 4 years prior to the application to apply for citizenship.
2. If the OP has no intention or is unable to prove that he will be returning to Canada once his spouse is issued a PR visa, then CHC/CIC will refuse to process. That is why most Middle East posts insists on seeing that the sponsor has given up their residency permit in the Middle East.

Its that someone can apply for sponsorship even if he/she is not living in Canada if he/she is citizen but... they have to show intention to come to canada when his / her spouse will get PR. You CAN apply to sponsor your spouse if you are a Canadian citizen living outside of Canada. But you MUST show intention to return to Canada once your spouse gets PR. Canuckinuae sounds like he has no intention to live in Canada in which case his case will be refused.

But what you said earlier is incorrect: Once your wife is PR, everyday she spends with you outside Canada will be counted as equivalant to be lining in Canada. So when she completes 3 years of PR she can apply for the citizenship even if she has not completed 3 years in canada. This is totally wrong!!

Once you have "landed" in Canada as a permanent resident, any time that you spend living with a Canadian citizen spouse outside of Canada is counted as time lived inside Canada for the purposes of meeting your PR residency obligations. But time spent outside Canada does not count towards your eligibility for Canadian citizenship.
