Want to apply for wife and kid later

Hi Everyone,

i am working in canada for past 1 year and 3 months and i would like to apply PR.
i have wife and kid who are living backhome. Can i apply PR for myself first and then sponsor my family later and if so how can i do that?

please clarify my question here.

Nope, you can't apply single..and you have to include their details with your application

Yes, you can apply for PR for yourself only as long as all your dependents are included in the application as non-accompanying. Then they can be examined even if you only intend for them to be sponsored at a later date. As long as they are included, you should not have any problems. If for some reason you don't want to include them at all, then NO as this would be misrepresentation and you could never sponsor them in the future.

Making them non-accompanying makes your case weak. I would suggest to add your dependants as accompanying.

i would like to include their details in the application but would like to sponsor them at a later point of time, as i need to settle down here for a while and then would like to bring them at a later point of time.
so as per the comments i see that its better to include them along with the application and then once they get the PR will plan to bring them at a later point of time.

would this be a good idea.

You can land as a family after you get a PR, then apply for PR card and your family may leave back soon after that. And arrive later, as you settle in. If you decide to sponsor them later, you may face additional delay with subsequent PR processing as well.

I feel it is a good idea to apply for everyone at once. Even if your dependants get PR, they can still stay in their home country.. However, you must all land together - you can do this and then they can return to home country.

Trust me, sponsorship is a pain.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you can even land separately. There was an requirement for principal applicant to land first in the past but perhaps something had changed since that.

My bad. You're right. You can all arrive at the same time or principal applicant must arrive first.

I got confused with the case in the forum where the principal applicant applied as single, but later got married. But he didn't include wife in the application. He was refused landing becuase his marital status changed. He then had to apply for wife and wait!

I have 2 dependants children that I added as accompanying. their father is non-accompanying but he signed the statutory declaration form for them and I included them, now we all got our pr visas and I will soon travel to bring them over and land together. it is always good to include ur family as accompanying. The pr visa is valid for one year for everyone so even if ur not ready to bring them immediately, they can join u at a later date(one year later) b4 their visas expire, by then u must have settled well.
