Deal all,
I'm planning for a trip to Germany next month but I didn't get my PR card yet. Can I go and come back safe?
My situation is as follows:
1 I have a valid multiple-entry work visa until Oct, 2014
2 My valid open work permit was taken by the border officer when I went landing for PR on Feb 8, 2014
3. I have confirmation letter for PR

Thanks

Your work permits became invalid when you completed the landing and became a PR of Canada. You can not
re-enter Canada using the CoPR, only by crossing at a land border. To fly back into Canada you will need your
PR card or a travel document, which you can apply for while outside of Canada.

Your visa means nothing once you become a PR.
you'd have to apply for the travel document while travelling to Germany.
Lastly, CoPR only works when traveling between US and canada by a non-commercial vehicle

thanks guys. I did landing on Feb 8th hopefully the PR card would arrive soon.
Otherwise, the request for urgent processing should be necessary.

You need to be leaving at least 3 weeks upon submission of application, plus they say there's no guarantee.
You also have to submit tickets/itinerary.

yes, it sucks. I did my landing on Feb 8th. Hope I can get my PR card by April,8th. If so, I still have chance to go on my trip.

It's funny 'coz in the link that I provided, it doesn't say anything about "no urgent processing for new PRs". There's also the chance that I missed it, but I've been looking at that info for quite a while since my schedule may get a bit tight (on landing, going abroad).
Sometimes I find the Call Center to be inconsistent.

Well, I asked the same question to the CIC agent. That lady said for new PR card, it would only take about 2 months, so it's already kind of speed processing.
Now I can do nothing, just cross my fingers and wish the PR card to be mailed in time.

Moreover, we cannot even check the status of PR card on line.
Today I asked that agent to check my PR card status and to check if they received my signed COPR after landing.
She refused. :(

I think they're right, my mistake.
There's no "urgent" link under the New Card....oh well...I'm coming from the US so might as well go by land.

CIC is right. It's been like this for years. Urgent processing is only available for renewals.
