Hello!!
I just had to share my news. I am waiting for my PR, my file is in Ottawa. I had to apply for my visitor extension. I applied online yesterday. I just received the update that my extension has been approved TODAY. So it took one day!! I still need to receive my approval letter, but online it stated that it is approved. I requested one year, so hopefully they approved the year. I was shocked and very happy.

Hi,

That's an awesome news!. Congrats. If may i ask, how long were you granted stay in Canada initially by the immigration officers at the port. I'm waiting for my PR as well and am hoping to visit my husband in April. This info might come in handy. Thanks for your help!.

That is awesome!! My husband applied to for visitor extension via paper form as their website listed that they are currently working on July applications for online visitor extensions! Perhaps he should have gone that route as we are still waiting! Will never understand CIC's process!

Oh Wow, I never even seen that. I just always apply online. I think the last time I applied for an extension it took a little less than a month. This time was crazy fast. I think it might have been because my PR application is in Ottawa being processed.
When did you mail your extension application in?

So surprising. Okay so it just says approved on the website, they haven't actually contacted you yet? I was gonna ask about that.

Hi TracyCa64, is your partner a citizen or a PR?? I am planning to get my wife here in November 2016 on visitor and apply for PR. I am an international student and would be eligible for applying for PR in September so my plan was that I would apply for PR and while my file is in process get my wife here on visitor and add her name to my file..

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Yeah, it has file closed, no more documents required and at the bottom it says Approved. I still will receive a letter of approval and it will state how long they approved my extension for.

Hi Rv_2311,
My partner is a Canadian citizen. I wish I could help you, but I don't know anything about a PR applying to sponsor a spouse. That might be a question to post on the forum as a new topic. The VIP members could probably help you with the process.
Best Wishes!!

I just checked and they haven't even billed my credit card for our app so I assume yours was because you were already in the system :P

Yes, I think having my PR application in process at the Ottawa VO probably helped. The last time I applied for an extension it took a little less than a month. I actually received it before my expiry date.

Did you use your husband's UCI from his VR on the extension application? They can look up that and maybe can see that a PR was sent for him. Hopefully that will move it a long.

In your letter of explanation did you tell them that he would be leaving in January for your trip to Florida and send copies of the ticket?

No we didn't mention the January trip because we assumed they wouldn't see it before the trip. We don't even have AOR so I'm not sure they can connect it with our PR Lawl. We did put the UCI from the VR on the extention application :3

It's such a bummer that you had to pay the $100 for just a few weeks of his Visitor status, but at least he is covered until he leaves and his status is legal. When you guys come back to Canada then he is only staying till March? If he already has his return flight booked that would be good to show the border agent when he re-enters Canada.

Yeah we'll try for a refund but who knows.

He doesn't have a return flight for March. We drive. We're actually only 4.5 hours apart by car.

Oh cool!! Being that close makes it nice to see each other. I was long distance for 5 years with my guy. I lived in California and he lives in Ontario. We visited each other, but we would have loved to live 4.5 hours apart.

Yeah it's really nice. He lived just outside of Seattle for the beginning of our relationship and it sucked. (I'm also in Ontario)
