What is the processing time roughly for US Outland applicants at the moment? This year has seemed to be better, with some getting thru in as soon as 4-7 months. But now I am hearing it could take much, much longer? My husband and me sent our papers off this month. What could we be looking at for a wait time? Thanks.

It varies a lot, my husband got his in under 4 months, some people wait much longer. The average is around 9 months as far as I can tell. Look at the spreadsheet in my signature and check out Ottawa applicants.

Thanks, and congrats, that is amazing. However, according to a thread I seen on here, the processing times have changed and I believe it said 17 months for the Ottawa office (the one US Outland apps go thru). That is horrible and I hope not true... I can't seem to find out what we may be looking at for a wait time now that things have apparently changed.

The posted processing time for Ottawa is 17 months. This is NOT an average. This represents how long it takes to process 80% of apps, meaning 79% are processed faster than that.

I don't quite understand your math here. If 17 months represents time to process 80% of all the applications, where did 79% number come from? did you mean 20% ? ;D

There are 100 apps. The 80th app is processed at the 17 month mark, giving the 80% processing time. The previous 79 apps were processed BEFORE that 17 month mark, i.e. 79% were processed faster than the posted time. The remaining 20 apps are processed AFTER that 17 month mark.

Where did you get these numbers and 80% :) I could not find it on CIC pages. Please links

Note the top:

The tables below indicate application processing times at Canadian visa offices once Step 1 has been completed. The times are based on how long it took to process 80 percent of all cases finalized between July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015. Processing times are subject to change.

As said above, the very top of the actual processing time website.

I used the example of 100 apps to try to simplify the math for you.

Hi there. We sent our application in around the middle of February, and I was approved as a PR on July 31st and got my COPR on August 4th.

Outland from the US.
