Voltage converter for Indian electrical items

Dear

If we take our mobile charger, or mp3 charger etc -- do they need a voltage converter or they will work with normal socket adjusting plug ?

How about if we take larger electrical appliance like grinder and chopper will they need voltage adapter ?

1. Check the charger, most are 120-240 volts, so all you need is an adapter plug.
2. It is probably not worth bringing your choppers and grinders, as their motors won't like the 60Hz frequency and will burn out quickly. It probably costs less to buy new in Canada, than buying a voltage convertor in Canada. Which will cost you $50+ depending on size.

Most of the modern electronic appliances have Switching mode transformers inside and work over a large range of voltages.
This includes your laptop charger, mobile charger, shavers, television, mp3 player, audio system etc.

However, electrical appliances won't work over wide range of voltages as they use the traditional heavier step up/down transformers.
This includes heaters, mixer grinders, choppers, hair dryers etc.
so if you are planning to bring such appliance from India, like mixer grinder, make sure you get a model which works at 100V, which will be almost impossible to find, or get a good voltage(step up) stabilizer.

All most all electiric devices states the power Voltage either 100/110 or 220/240 or 100-240.

My guess most of the items in India are 220/240. Unless its laptops, printer, mobile chargers, Some LED TVs, Camera chargers...All the kitchen equipments are usually 220/240 in India...you need to get a converter/transformer. There are some good ones on Amazon..Check he reviews and also asks questions to the buyer mentioning the load....For example 200 Watts for grinder...Ask them the capacity of the tranformer it can take...I bought a UHD TV from the US which is 110/120. Purchased a really good transformer for 80$..after checking with Amazon seller, reviews and comments.

For any appliance or device that you bring to Canada to work, make sure that the plug or device power tag has the 110 or 120 - 240 V rating. If so it will work. For the most part it is not really worth bringing things that do not have this rating. Most of these items are generally fairly inexpensive to replace in Canada. Good step up transformers are available on Amazon, but it is not hard to spend $500 on a transformer that can run one big device at a time. Also the frequency is often different (even with step up) eg. 50Hz vs 60Hz. This means that your devices will not last very long even with a step up. Avoid wasting money on bringing items that will not work in Canada and rather plan to buy here. Unless you have a very expensive item, then maybe. Good luck
