Hello,

I have a question, a maybe stupid one. My husband has been in Canada for the past few months with a visitor's visa, which will expire in a couple of days, but we have applied for an extension already. Meanwhile he received his COPR. We are planning to leave and reenter Canada within the next 2 weeks, in the meantime his previous visitor's visa will be expired.
Will it be a problem at the border when leaving Canada? When they look at the stamp for his visitor's visa, and it is expired? Do we have to show proof that we paid for the extension? Or does the COPR serve as a visa already with which he is legal to stay in Canada or is it only legal after landing? I am not sure if the COPR is a right of staying in the country only after landing or already before that.

If you've applied for the extension of a valid visitor's visa, then you're fine. He has implied status.

If you're concerned about landing, you can take a receipt for payment of the extension - but Immigration should have the application on file, even if they haven't started to process it yet.

Congrats! :D

CoPR becomes an official document only after your husband has processed landing procedure. Until then, it is just a sheet of paper and does not give him a status to stay in Canada. But since he has already applied for extension before his current permit expires, he is fine. I would just bring the record of extension application just in case.

Congrats!
