Hello,
I hold dual Danish/Belarusian citizenship with slightly different names due to the transliteration norms and multiple state languages in Belarus.
I also hold Canadian PR and the card has expired and is, unfortunately, lost. I received the PR when being a Belarusian citizen, so it bears my Belarusian name on it.
I have my RO completed, however and I spent 2 years in Canada in the last 5 years.
My contract in Denmark expires in a year and I plan to move back to Canada.
Is it illegal to enter Canada with my Danish passport visa-free under a different name and remain there as a PR?
I don't want to do anything illegal, but I'd rather avoid a hassle of requesting travel permit from a Canadian embassy if what I am doing is legal.
Thank you.

You need an eTA to fly to Canada under your Danish passport. eTA won't be approved since you are a PR.

You'll additionally be committing misrepresentation if you apply for an eTA knowing you are already a PR. You'll need to misrepresent answers on the eTA application which is a problem.

So, I understand coming to Canada with my Danish passport would be illegal.

Is it legal to fly to the US with my Danish passport and crossing into Canada through an unmanned border crossing, such as Angle Inlet in Manitoba? As a visitor to the US, I would be allow to travel to the Canadian border and as a Canadian PR I would be allowed to cross into Canada at the unmanned border crossing. Would this be legal?

Would strongly discourage entering at an unmanned border without your PR card. Your chances of being denied entry because of concerns about who you are much higher. Traveling from Denmark Through the US to an unmanned border raises huge red flags.

Apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD).

If you've fulfilled your RO you should have it approved without any issues.

Why don't you submit your Belorussian passport to the VO for the PRTD? Would make life easier instead of providing the Danish one. If it has to be the Danish passport, then provide a letter of explanation on the difference in your name's spelling.

I would say, moving forward, always try to have your name spelt the same way on your official documents to prevent any issues.
