Visitor visa with open work permit

Hi,

My husband is on a work permit here. I have joined him as a dependent on a visitor visa which is valid until 2017. Now I would like to apply for a open work permit based on my husband’s permit. With the open work permit will my visitor visa still holds good? That is, will I be able to leave the country and back in Canada with the visitor visa?

I assume your husband is working in a skilled position. Your open work permit is independent of your visitor visa. The open work permit is your authorization to work in Canada and the visitor visa or TRV is your authorization to enter/exit Canada.
