Hi guys,

I need some expert advice please. My friend is getting the admission in the college that requires to give pre-admission test , do you think he could get a visitor visa just to give pre admission test and once the admission is confirmed apply for study permit????

Thanks in advance

of course.

Use as purpose of travel the letter of invitation from the school to take the exam. If you don't have one ask the school to provide one for immigration purposes.

Thank you for the reply. But I was wondering for how long will he get the visitor visa for, will it be enough time to apply for study permit from canada? Also how to prove that in case if he doesn't clear the pre-admission test he will go back to home country?

The study permit application has to be sent to the home country visa office. It cannot be processed from within Canada.

Scylla explained.

Normal ties should do, for example a letter of enrollment from his current school. Look in the forum for other common proof of ties.

Thank you, but any idea how long visitor visa will be? for 6 months or 2-3week for jst admission test?
For study permit he has to go back home and apply for student visa?

How long he is allowed to visit Canada will be determined by the immigration officer he speaks with when he enters Canada. If he's entering Canada to take a college pre-admission test - then he should only be coming for a few weeks - not six months - and should have a return ticket that reflects the length of his trip. If he says he's coming for a college pre-admission test but says at the border that he has plans to stay for six months - this might create problems. Yes - he should return home to apply for the study permit. He cannot submit the application through Canada and he must also prove he has strong ties to his home country to be approved. The best way to show this is to apply from his home country.
