Hi all,

I had previously inquired about immigration options for my sister and her family in this forum however that’s quite a lengthy and complex process. In the meantime, they are planning to visit the U.S. later this summer/fall. Both my sister and nephew hold valid multiple-entry U.S. visas.

Would they need to apply for a regular TRV to visit Canada? Also, does having a valid U.S. visa improve their chances of approval? Thanks in advance!

They need a TRV if not from a visa exempt country. Where do they live? It can improve chances but doesn't guarantee it.

they reside in Pakistan. I understand that they need TRV but for someone holding US visa they'll go through the same process and then provide US visa documentation?

Are they temporary visitors or wanting to immigrate ?

Still applying for TRV. IRCC decides if processed through CAN+

Hi all, thank you for your replies. We have decided to apply for visitor visa while she is visiting U.S.

My nephew and sister will land June 25 in U.S. and they have medical appointments +rehab for my nephew starting July 20 onwards. I am hoping she can visit me for 2 weeks at least. I think the two options they would have is to apply online when they land in U.S. OR apply at the border maybe as the last resort...? (We chose not to apply for Pakistan as the rehab dates kept changing and it was risky to submit passport in Pakistan for Canada visit visa when they were to travel to U.S. soon).

Can I apply through my IRCC account OR does it has to be her account and she submits "Use of Representative Form" --> Is this also called a submission letter. We are just going through the process and want to be ready with documents and everything as soon as they land in U.S.

They cannot just show up and apply at the border. They can only apply online. Set up their own accounts with her signing representative form.

Being in US as visitors and applying from there will weaken chances because they have no ties to return especially if seeking medical treatment. Good luck.

How long will they be visiting the US? Just processing a TRV and getting it stamped may take multiple months although could be shorter. There is a good chance they also may need their passport while in the US and would be risky to submit it to the Canadian embassy for stamping even if approved. You mention going to the border. This would not be possible for a normal visit. If forever reason you are referring to claiming asylum that would be a very bad idea unless they have very strong proof of persecution. Claiming asylum, even with proof, has serious longterm consequences for a family for example family separation, difficulty traveling or obtaining a temporary permit to many countries, etc.
