Hi everyone,

Looking for advice after my mother’s Canada visitor visa was refused due to 1) concerns about the purpose of visit not being consistent with a temporary stay, 2) insufficient financial situation, and 3) not being satisfied that she would leave Canada at the end of her visit.. I’m sharing exact purpose of visit + detailed financials, along with a key comparison that’s confusing me.

Applicant Details

  • Age: Late 50s
  • Country: India
  • Occupation: Government employee (mid-level officer role)
  • Monthly net salary: ~₹1 lakh
  • Working since early 1990s (permanent government job)
  • Married

Important Context (Spouse Case)

  • Spouse is also a government employee
  • He recently got his Canada visitor visa approved
  • Same purpose of travel, same dates, same itinerary
  • His net worth shown was slightly lower than hers
This is what makes the refusal confusing.

Purpose of Visit (Exact Statement Submitted)

“I plan to visit Canada from August 1 to October 31, 2026 to support my daughter-in-law and son following the birth of their child. During my stay, I will provide family and emotional support, assist with household tasks, and help with newborn care. I will return to India after October 2026 to resume my government employment and attend to my family and property responsibilities, making this a temporary visit.”

Financials (CA Certified)

  • Annual income: ~₹16 lakh (~CAD 24k)
  • Savings & bank balance: ~₹1.5 crore (~CAD 225k)
  • Immovable property: ~₹3 crore (~CAD 460k)
Total net worth: ~₹4.7 crore (~CAD 700k+)
  • Declared liquid funds in application: CAD 45,000
  • Additional long-term savings also shown

Ties to India

  • Permanent government job
  • Spouse residing in India
  • Property ownership
  • Strong financial and family ties

Documents Submitted

  • Invitation letter
  • Employer letter
  • CA certificate (net worth)
  • Salary slips + tax returns
  • Proof of funds (bank + long-term savings)
  • Property documents
  • Marriage certificate

Refusal Reasons

  • Purpose of visit not consistent with temporary stay
  • Financial situation insufficient
  • Not satisfied applicant will leave Canada

My Confusion

  • She has stronger financials than her spouse
  • Both have stable government jobs
  • Same travel plan and purpose
Yet:
  • Spouse approved
  • Mother refused for purpose + finances + intent

Questions

  1. Could “help with newborn care” be interpreted as unauthorized work?
  2. Why would one spouse be approved and the other refused with similar profiles?
  3. Does IRCC focus more on liquid funds vs total net worth?
  4. Should we reapply with:
    • Different wording of purpose?
    • More liquid funds shown?
    • Stronger leave approval proof?
  5. Any specific fixes that could improve chances on reapplication?

Your mother is the tie for your father to return

If your mother goes as well, there goes the tie . The IRCC is well aware that parents will apply one at a time . One using the other as a tie to return .
Far too many have abused visas . Hence one is the tie for the other to return

And yes , helping with the new born is unauthorized work . Aside from that , your father got the visa, why do two people have to come to help with the baby ?
And don’t imply it’s the women’s responsibility. Takes two to tango . And it wasn’t an immaculate conception
Plus it’s North America. The father is THE primary caregiver to help the mother with their child

Two months is far too long

Regarding the duration, a two-month stay is entirely standard for international visitors, especially for grandparents traveling across the world to support their family after a birth. It is a reasonable timeframe that allows for bonding without exceeding the typical 6-month stay granted to most tourists.

I understand the concept of home ties, but many families successfully travel together. In our case, my mother has significant obligations, including reporting back to her government position and managing our properties, both of which serve as strong incentives to return.

Regarding 'unauthorized work,' IRCC distinguishes between professional labor and familial support. Assisting a son and daughter-in-law with a newborn is a standard familial activity, not labor market displacement. The goal is simply for both grandparents to meet their grandchild, which is a common and valid reason for a visitor visa.

Would be great if you could answer 4 and 5.

1. Yes
2. Ties to home country. With the first spouse's application, the mother served as a tie since she was not also included in the application. Now that the second parent applied, ties to home country as much weaker
3. Liquid
4. Yes, I would do all of these things. Avoid or lessen the language around the mother taking care of housework and the child. It's much better to say the mother is coming to meet the child / celebrate the birth vs helping or taking care of anything. It common to see refusals when helping with childcare for an extended period of time is mentioned. Also shorten the trip to a few weeks ideally.
5. See above. Shorten the trip.

Do you think when reapplying it's good to add an explanation letter or something?

Doesn't matter. Just add the sentence in invitation letter.

Btw, do you ever travel internationally for 2 months?

Unreasonable refusal and looks like it is deliberate, some visa officers doing this. You are rich , file a case in federal court your visa will be approved

How to answer this - "Provide as many details as possible about when that happened and why. This will help with processing your application. (required)
If you have been issued a permit since that refusal, provide the document number with the date of issue and expiry date."

Is this good enough - "My Canada visitor visa application was refused on March 20, 2026. The refusal was based on concerns regarding the consistency of the purpose of visit with a temporary stay, insufficient financial resources for the stated travel purpose, and concerns that I may not leave Canada at the end of my authorized stay. No visa or permit has been issued since this refusal."

Although your Aunty got lucky for some reason and were processed by AI what you suggested is rarely successful and likely would have been refused if went through a manual review. Did she have somewhat recent travel history to US, UK, Australia, etc.? Very puzzling why she wasn’t processed primarily by AI and not a manual review.

Can you share what you wrote in invitation letter
Although you got lucky for some reason and were processed by AI what you suggested is rarely successful and likely would have been refused if went through a manual review.
no I provided all documents correctly as needed including significant ties pension certificate which is clear stating every 6 months my aunt has to sign. Make proper documentation you will succee. Nothing to do with luck automatic approval is also peer reviewed by officer

Wasn’t unreasonable. Long leave if a job is being used as a tie. Parents should have applied together or the wife should have applied to use her spouse as a tie. If the spouse got denied his TRV at least the mom could travel. Saying you will do household chores is considered illegal work and she should have limited it to emotional support and meeting the grandchild.
