Visitor visa for mom

Hi Guys!

I am thinking of inviting my mother to Canada for a few months. I cannot afford sponsorship as my wife started here MBA last year and she's not working. My mom lives in Russia in an apartment which is on my name and she is retired. I moved to Canada 6 years ago and have Canadian citizenship. What are my chances and how could I improve them?

I am prepared to buy medical insurance for the entire duration of her stay, tickets. Is there any ways to convince immigration? Can I just be honest with them and write that temporarily our household income decreased and that's why I am getting a tourist visa for my mom and as soon my wife is back to work I will apply for sponsorship?

Thank you!

I wouldn't mention sponsorship - this might result in refusal. To have the highest chance of approval, your mother needs to demonstrate that she has strong ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term.

Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, other than her pension she does not have any strong ties. The apartment she lives in is on my name.

In that case you'll just have to apply and hope for the best. Unless your mother has traveled extensively in the past to other countries requiring visas, I would limit the length of the trip you're requesting to 2-3 weeks.
