Dear all,

My mother's 6 month stay duration in Canada is expiring on Nov 18th. I submitted an online application to extend her stay in Canada as a Visitor on Sep 28 but still havent heard back from CIC. I have meanwhile started looking for flight tickets for her to return to India.

Her visa expires in 2026 and she has plans to come back to canada in Feb 2018. So we were thinking a stay extension would help cut down the to and fro travel.

I remember someone telling one could stay in Canada after applying for a stay extension. Is that true?

Could you please throw some light on this? If possible, I would prefer her not to travel back and forth.

Thanks,
Priya

Yes - she can remain in Canada until a decision is made for the extension application.

Thank you so much!
Apply for the extension as soon as possible. One should apply for extension a month before 6 months are completed. So even if you apply now there is a good chance of rejection but still your mother can stay in Canada under implied status. As per current processing timelines it around 114 days to get a decision on visa extension.
