Dear friends,

My wife is March 2015 applicant (NDVO) and is currently with me here in Canada on TRV (multiple entry). She entered Canada on 01 March 2015 so 6 months will expire on 31 August 2015. I will appreciate if some one can share his/her experience on how to extend Visitor Visa from within Canada, Online or hard copies?

Thanks in advance and best wishes to everyone waiting for their PR.

Cheers..

I did it online for my wife. Processing times are quicker. I suggest you apply at least 30 days before her 6 months are up. I am assuming that the the multiple TRV is valid beyond August 2015...because the extension asked has to be within the validity of the visa stamped on your passport. You can even ask a year (if it is within the validity of the TRV) if you wish.

If I remember correctly, you need to create a GC Key login and a MyCIC login. Follow the system steps and you should be fine.

Make sure the document formats and sizes are according to the specifications on the website. I had to use some online tools to make the photo meet the specs. I suggest you get a photo taken at Shoppers and then scan and upload it. Documents that you could include (based on what I did and the extension was granted):
- Invitation Letter from you confirming that you would like her to stay longer and that you will financially support her
- Your Proof of employment and last three months slip or any other proof of income (savings etc...)
- Bank statements for the past three months - I had a joint account with my wife here in Canada so I included that
- Your PR Card scan or Canadian Passport scan (based on your status in Canada)
- SA Letter from CPC-Mississauga and any other correspondence your visa office processing your wife's PR app (if applicable) otherwise SA is enough
- Cover Letter from your wife requesting the extension and listing supporting documentations
- The e-medical receipt from the PR app; not mandatory but I included it anyways because it is a tab on the online app - would not hurt

the system will tell you if your application is acceptable to be submitted; you will get a file number and the online system will regularly update you on the progress. All the best!

I did mine online and got surprisingly got approved the next day :)

You must be able to pay online and have your documents scanned to apply online. I recommend online is way faster.

Here is the link. You have to check your eligibility first and that will give you a file number so you could start your online application.

I did mine online too and asked for one year extension and was approved.

Apart from all the docs mentioned by sam_1985, I also submitted Marriage certificate, latest NOA, option C and private health insurance.

Apply before 30 days. Mention the NDVO processing time and your app recv date.

Good luck !

Dear friends,

My wife entered Canada on March 01, 2015 and her return ticket is booked for August 28, 2015 (3 days before expiry of 6 months).

We have applied Online to extend her stay for one year on 24 July and the processing time shown on CIC website is 110 days meaning we may not hear from CIC prior to August 28, 2015

We can change the return ticket date only once.

What do we do? Your valuable suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks...

She can stay here during the processing time. I know it's very tricky when you can only change your ticket once. If you have submitted everything they are asking for I don't think it will take them 105 days to answer. I got an answer the next day, even though the processing time was suppose to be 105. I guess I was lucky too.

If you change the ticket and the visa gets rejected, you can reapply for an extension, and your wife can stay until they answer again, she will have an implied status.

I would suggest assuming it'll take the full 100+ days. I applied back in May to change my work permit to a visitor permit (my work permit was expiring in June and I want to stay in Canada while waiting for PR) and it was listed as 50some days for approval. That should have been this week. Then, overnight, it jumped up to over 100. Apparently they are still working on April applicants at this point - so I wouldn't hold my breath for it to be very fast.

I would love for you to be right though - I'm getting very tired of waiting as I have to reapply for health coverage and can't do that until getting approved!
