Hello,

Thank you for your time to read and hopefully advise me. I am travelling with my son next month, who has a student permit as he starts his course in September.

I will be staying in Canada for 4 months. And wish to know if there is a length of time that has to pass until I may return. And if I do return, am I allowed the usual 6 month period?

Many thanks again. :)

You generally want to be spending more time outside of Canada in the year than inside of Canada. So if you come for four months, it would be a good idea to remain outside of Canada for 6-8 months before attempting to return. Whether you are allowed six months when you return will be entirely up to the CBSA officer you encounter at the border.

There is nothing that states any amount of time between visits, technically you can leave, turn around and get back... but CBSA officers would read this as an attempt on abusing the law... and you do not want that.

It is recommended that you spend at least the same amount of time out of Canada than in Canada, so the short answer would be 4 months.

When you return you will be assessed by a CBSA officer which would refuse, give shorter stay, or max 6 months. One thing for certain, the mroe frequent the visits the less time you will get.
