Just an FYI for others, turns out you cannot extend a VR at a border crossing. Bit if a waste of time for us and now we only have a week to apply for an extention I guess :(

extension via border only work if it is for first time if you have TRV valid and you like to have extension ,otherwise you have to apply for extension inside Canada if you want to extend your stay in Canada for "visitor record" if you to apply inside . what I did for myself I did go to the border on December 19 ,2015 and I got one year extension via border without any problems.

Well we went in, asked to extend his VR and we're told they don't do that at the border. His VR expires in a week, now, and I don't know if it's worth putting the application through online and paying the $100. What are the chances of it coming through in time?

As long as you apply before his current VR expires, then you are okay. He will be on implied status until they make a decision the application.

I don't know much about how implied status works. If we do the online application will it explain that? I don't want the 4th (when his VR expires) to come, us not have heard anything, him not leave and it mess up our pr application.

There is nothing to it really. As long as your application is received before your visitor record expires then you will be on implied status. I am applying outland just like you and have applied to extend my VR twice, both times going on implied status until my application was approved.

We're honeymooning in Florida Jan 24-31, flying out of Toronto. My only concern is if they reject the request and it's mid-Jan when they do, he'll have to leave and may not get back in to make the plane.

What is his nationality? Your VR expires on Jan 4th so it will not be processed by the time you leave (Jan 24) and unlikely to be processed by Jan 31, so depending on his nationality they may just let him in for 1-12 months anyway, but you have to apply before it expires.

He's American. Well, if it keeps him here until Jan 24 I guess that's something.. But then when we leave for Florida it'll cancel, right? Then flying back in might be a problem..

Once he leaves Canada on January 24th his implied status will end. Has he applied for PR?

Being an American he should not have a hard time coming back in to Canada.

Yes we've sent in the pr application in. Apparently that's why we got the VR in the first place. I'm just worried that when we try to come back into Toronto on the 31st, since he didn't leave on the 4th they won't let him back in.

My husbands entertainment work visa expired August 16th, we applied for a visitor Visa August 11th and November 16th we got the approval letter. So during that time here was here on implied status.

Yeah, I'm just worried that when we come back from Florida on Jan 31 they'll turn him away and then he'll have to fly back to the states, so we're out that money plus his car would still be here.

Oh, well when on Implied status you can't leave and come back.

You can leave, but in doing so your implied status expires.
