Hi everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked already, but I couldn't find the threads I read months ago.

I'm currently on a one-year non-extendable OWP and my partner is sponsoring me for PR. I included an OWP application with our PR application, mailed last week and received yesterday. My current OWP runs out on October 7th. Do I need to get a visitor record in order to stay here legally or do I already have implied status? Please help! Getting a bit stressed out. The processing times for visitor record seems to be 150+ days now?

You do have implied status, but its advisable to apply for a visitor record just in case your pr+ owp application gets sent back for some reason (like missing signatures or something like that). I that case you would lose status and would not be eligible for the owp anymore, until you restored it.

What did you fill in for details of visit? Other and explained you're applying for PR? Or just visit? I also don't know what to fill in at my indication of how long I intend to stay, obviously until I get PR..

I personally applied for about 6 months for both of mine( my first record expired on 1st. of september, applied for another one in August). I explained that I'm still waiting to hear back from my sponsorship + owp application and thats why I need to extend again, I also attached the receipts I got from those applications and a sceenshot from the postal tracking, that it was delivered in May in mississauga.

Often when you apply for longer than 6 months you have to do a medical, so I personally would rather go for 6 months, to save the money on that (I could still have to do one, not sure).

And you really only need the visitor record until you receive the work permit, with that your status is worker until you either receive pr, or the work permit expires (whatever happens first I guess)
