My 70-year-old mother will be visiting Toronto from India on visitor visa, and I’m deciding between:

1) Visitor health insurance from a Canadian provider (e.g., Manulife, TuGo)
2) Travel insurance from India with overseas medical coverage (e.g., ICICI Lombard, Tata AIG)

Indian plans are cheaper, but I’m concerned about:
- Claim settlement experience in Canada
- Direct billing vs upfront payment
- Overall reliability during emergencies

Has anyone had first-hand experience with either option for elderly parents? Which worked better in real situations?

Thanks in advance!

Are the amounts of coverage the same? Have you the read fine prints of the insurance policies?

Get it from Canada, easier for you to manage from here, god forbid something comes up. Maybe you will save a few bucks taking from India, but the hassle may not be worth it.
