Hi-

I am travelling to Las Vegas 8) and Grand Canyon this Friday, i have a valid work permit of Canada but my Visa expired last February, will there be a problem re entering Canada.

PS: I have a valid US visa.

You need multiple/single entry VISA to enter into Canada, which you don't have..

No, you dont need a valid VISA to come back to canada from US, if you have a valid WP and an expired visa its enough !!

I heard that too..but not sure..

Thanks Guys, i got another link which says that a valid Work Permit is enough to come back from US :)

It doesn't make a difference whether i travel by Air or by Road.

For some reason i cannot paste that link here :(

An excerpt from UWaterloo website:

Canada and the U.S. have a special agreement, (Regulation 190 3f), which allows holders of a valid Study Permit to re-enter Canada after a trip solely to the continental U.S. It is strongly recommended, however, that you apply for the Temporary Residence Vise (TRV) especially if you are travelling by air. Airlines may not allow you to board the flight if you do not have a valid TRV.

Print out 190 3(f) and bring it with you:

(f) to re-enter Canada following a visit solely to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon, if they

(i) held a study permit or a work permit that was issued before they left Canada on such a visit or were authorized to enter and remain in Canada as a temporary resident, and

(ii) return to Canada by the end of the period initially authorized for their stay or any extension to it;

I've done this myself, and by showing my work permit I wasn't given any trouble boarding the plane. I highly recommend you to bring a print-out of 190 3(f) just in case someone gives you a hard time.

Sg... I have traveled through road between Canada and US and all I was asked is the WP and they dont care much about the VISA.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

You need to have one or the other. Not both! So if you have a valid work permit, you are fine. When I was coming back from the States, they didnt even look or check any of that. But like I said, a valid work permit is sufficient.
