Hi

My husband (Australian) has an offer of employment as a visiting scholar at McGill university for a sabbatical for 3 months next year. He is LMIA exempt and CAQ exempt, he has had his employer compliance fee paid for by McGill and has an employment ID number and a letter of invitation to be employed as a temporary visiting scholar. When we plug his details into the Canadian immigration site to apply for a work visa it says that he doesn't require a work permit, he can go just on an eTG.

However, we require a work permit or visiting scholar permit to be able to send our three children to an English Montreal School's Board (EMSB) school while in Montreal. If we can't get one we have to send them to a totally french school which is not ideal. Our minimal contact with EMSB results in us being told that we ask for a visiting scholar visa at immigration when we arrive in Vancouver.

Has anyone heard of this scenario? I am a bit dubious whether we will just be given a visa when we will all already have the eTG ones and I haven't been able to find anything on the internet about this situation. Any help much appreciated.
