I saw an old thread without an answer to this question. Does time spent in Canada as a visiting scholar or professor count towards canadian experience for Express Entry? This was time spent working in Canada, but paid by my home university. I held a valid temporary work permit for the duration.

If you had work permit then it should count as an experience. Do you have atleast 1 years of it to claim points for it?

I have 1 year exactly but heard third hand that somebody else applying for express entry had these points disallowed but I couldn't find anything on IRCC website to say this

If you were getting salary at your home employer, it can never be counted as work permit since you would not be paying taxes in Canada at that time. So technically, its not Canadian experience.

Sorry but that reply doesn't make sense. Although I was paid by my home employer, I was living and working in Canada with a work permit so had to pay Canadian taxes on my worldwide income (as per CRA rules).

I replied this because you mentioned that you were getting paid through "home university".

On the other side, if you were on Canadian payroll for 12 months, they will count this experience under Express Entry programs.

Hello,
I have also received a letter of admission from a Canadian University to work in Canada as a visiting professor. I want to apply for a work permit that expires in 6 months and I will also be paid by my home university. I was wondering whether it would be possible to continue staying in Canada by finding a non-academic job in Canada? Would I need to apply for another work permit? Would the employers be willing to hire someone with a temporary work permit? Thanks!

You had to do some research on your own for employers who would be willing to go for LMIA process for you. You would need another work permit to work legally. Also if you go for applying through LMIA process it would be required to work full time for that employer for an year to become eligible for PR process in future.

Many thanks. To research for potential employers, which websites would you recommend? Could the following websites provide a stating point?
