Yes be honest stating you're in a relationship otherwise you may get in trouble for leaving out important info like that! They are trained to detect people who may leave out information or lie about. I would definitely recommend being honest about you are in a relationship and you are wishing to start a life! They will understand and you're more likely to get accepted!

Does he even need a letter? He could just be coming on vacation he already booked a return ticket and will include the itinerary in his application so what if he also books a hotel. I just don't want them to deny his right to visit for vacation.

It depends where he's from. If he's a visa exempt citizen he can enter canada without aoplying for a temporary resident visa. No they aren't going to deny him unless he's not mentioning the true reasons why he's going to canada. Have you guys met yet? Because they are more than likely going to ask him how you met and he's having to explain in detail (I went through the same when I first visited my boyfriend) and trust me, being honest is the only way to deal with it without getting into trouble.

He should bring a piece of paper with your name, address, phone number and maybe someone elses to contact if they are going to call you to confirm he's visiting you.

Yes I've gone back 3 times to visit. I was thinking of sending an invite letter but just saying a friend.

If you are really just friends, then no problem. But if you are more than friends but misrepresent it and get caught, then you can be sure he will be banned for 2 years.

thanks for the heads up. The truth will set you free! right? This was my intentions it was just reading this forum and the stories of people being refused TRV's to visit boyfriends and girlfriends just got me scared. He's coming to meet my family and I don't want to be disappointed. I guess we should have an alternate plan.

Hey Tweetybird,
My girlfriend and I are afraid of the same thing, but being honest is always the best way to go. The system is there to keep dishonest people out of their country, which is understandable, so best we can do is be totally honest and hope that they see that you are not someone trying to take advantage of the country. Like mentioned above, if you are caught lying about something, there is much bigger problems, and that is the last thing you want.

Well, the truth should set you free but not always the case. lol :) Anyway, it is better to be upfront about the relationship and explain the purpose of visit in details.

I understand how you feel because I am about to go through the process. But I tell myself, we just need to put in a strong application and hopefully it satisfies the officer.

Keep me posted on your success! Good luck. I'm drafting a letter right now inviting him. I'm going to just have to be positive and have a plan #2

Thanks! I did it all online (except my passport that went through courier when they requested it), and the whole process from the date I submitted it till i got my passport back took about two weeks.
I applied through Pretoria, South Africa.

They do note everywhere that times may vary if your forms are not complete, so always make sure you give them everything they ask for and exactly to the letter.

Oh that's great!!! Congratulations! I sent my boyfriend a letter of invitation from me and I stated that I was his girlfriend, however I did not put in the letter how long we have been dating. Do you think I should have or will they be able to check my passport number and see that I have travelled to mexico 3 times this year? I could always send another letter but I just didn't want to make it a big deal that we have been dating for a year and half because his ties to his home country should be stronger.

so happy for you.... still waiting to hear back for us.
Enjoy Canada!

I wouldn't worry about it, they asked for your relationship to him and you provided it, not necessarily how long you've been together. I didn't either and waiting to hear back. Like you we concentrated on showing strong ties to home country.
