Hello everyone,

I need some guidance and help regarding apply for visit visa for my mother in law and brother in law. My wife is pregnant, she does not work as she is house maker, my mother in law does not work back home (Pakistan) and she even does not have a bank account. My brother in law has has a business. My mother in law is afraid of travelling alone and specially this 14 days quarantine requirement in Toronto will be impossible for her to stay alone as it will be too hard for her, so we are exploring if my brother in law can accompany her.

I have literally no idea, where to start? what documents I need? and when should I apply? My wife will be due in September, and we are in the process of relocating from different province to Ontario in the month of May, so I am curious when should I apply? Should I apply before relocating or should I apply after relocating to Ontario?

I have read CIC website, and I am not sure what documents I need from my end? and what documents will be required from their end? Can I apply from here in Canada?

I would be thankful if you could please. Looking forward to your response.

She is Canadian Citizen and I am as well
Your wife's status is what's important.

I would suggest they apply now rather than waiting. Processing times are long.

Right now your wife's brother would need an authorization letter to travel - impossible for any of us to say if that will still be a requirement or not at the time they want to travel. Probably best to assume it will be. And they both need TRVs.

Suggest you read through the information on the website below in detail. Your mother in law will be classified as an immediate family member. Your brother in law will be classified as an extended family member.

How do I get the authorization letter, I could not find link with the info?

And, Can I submit electronic online application from here from Canada on their behalf?

Ok thanks, I will have a look. By the way, do they need to quarantine in a hotel after arriving here or they can quarantine in our house?
Right now there is a mandatory hotel quarantine for the first 3 days. Impossible to say if that will still be in place or not at the time they travel.

The authorization letter link is on the page I gave you above.

Link to apply for a TRV online is below. Sure, you can submit on their behalf.

Hi Scylla,

Appreciate your responses helping all of us. I have a similar question around IMM0006 form; should I secure this notarized form first even before my siblings apply for TRV online or is it independent of each other?

Both my siblings are employed in India and have CAD 10000 in their bank accounts, this would be good enough for their visit to me for 1 month period?

Note that I am a PR in Canada (moved 2 months ago).

Thank you and appreciate your reply!

Job, property, funds, leaving family behind (spouse and children) and request short visit are all strong ties.

Hello everyone, I would appreciate if anyone can provide some guidance to the best of their knowledge or experience regarding below questions.

1-Me and my wife we are Canadian Citizen, my wife is pregnant and is a home maker. She will be due in September and we want to apply for temporary visitor visa for my mother in law but she can't travel alone so we want to apply temporary visa for my wife's brother. My mother in law does not have a bank account and she is a home maker, so I am wondering who will be the principle applicant as my brother in law is the one who will be financially supporting my mother in law.

2- Do I need separate application for my mother in law and brother in law or it can be in in the same application and in the same family information?

3- Do I need to get authorization letter from IRCC for my brother in law and mother in law? if so, does this need to be done before applying for visit visa or after they get Visa? it is not clear? I went to check IRCC website, and it is not clearly explain when to apply for authorization letter, and what should be asked for because invitation letter is already sent?

4- Does anyone has any idea what is the authorization letter request look like? We are already writing invitation letters, so not sure how to get the authorization letter?

Does anyone know, how many forms need to be filled? Do I need below forms filled for both applicants separately so there will be 8 forms to be filled?
Imm 5257b, imm 5257e, imm 5713e, imm 5645e.

5- What supporting documents for each applicant is required to be attached with application. Is there any list of documents?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

1. Both needs separate accounts and need to show their own funds. They are both the main applicants of their applications unless he is under 22.
2. Your brother in law needs written authorization to travel and show his visit is essential. All the information is on the website. Your mother does not need authroization.
3. Invitation letters are not written authorization (read link)
4. Need proof that they can support their visit (bank accounts, investments, funds, property, jobs, tied to home).

As I had been waiting for the doctor's note, I finally have received doctor's note, so now I can submit application for my brother and law and mother and law.
My brother and law has strong ties back home, wife, spouse, two kids and business. He has some balance in his bank account, he reason I want to give in the invitation letter is that he needs to travel to accompany my mother law because she is afraid of flying alone, and can not quarantine in hotel alone as she is afraid of loneliness. Besides, my brother in law will leave in a month. So, is this explanation good enough?

Secondly, my mother in law does not have bank account, and I will cover her stay and all things and even I will cover it for my brother in law, so the question is, does she still need a bank account if so, I don't have idea or clue on how to show money as we may not have enough funds and besides the account will be less than less than 1 month old even if I open it. Can any one clarify this part, if she needs to have her own bank account or not? In the letter I will say that my brother in law has balance in his account and they are traveling together, so will that be enough?
