Hey everyone! Me and my husband are in the process of getting my PR in Canada, and he's a Canadian citizen. His sister is getting married next summer and we would both love to go, but are unsure about whether I will be cleared to go or not. I am a US citizen and heard I might be able to go in between countries while I'm "in process." Anyone with experience on this subject?

If you are a US citizen you will have no problem visiting Canada for your sister in law's wedding. People even "visit" Canada for 6 months and longer while their application is processing. You'll have no problem especially if it's just for a wedding and you are not planning to stay for long.

Just in case, carry your sponsorship approval letter with you, even though you probably won't need it.

If you are flying and will have purchased your return ticket when you enter Canada, then you will have no problem. My wife visited me many times during the sponsorship process and the only thing they ever asked her for was to see proof of her return ticket.

if you are only going for a short visit, you will have no issue, and your pr application may not even come up. even if it does, it won't work against your entry. if you want to stay longterm, then you will want to prove you have an application submitted and ties back to the us. they will confirm your application at the border and let you in. if you want to spend the entire processing time in canada, 30 days before you current visit expires you will want to apply to extend your stay as a visitor and request 6 or 12 months. US PR applicants are rarely denied extensions.
