Visa validity these days - 10 years or 6 months?

Hello,

Those who got visas approved in last 6 months, are visas being given with validity of only 6 months these days or till expiry date of passport / biometrics?

I am asking because there was a news that TRVs will not be issued for long duration by default. I applied for TRV for my parents. They had Canadian visas in the past with validity till passport expiry. I am hoping that they get visas again till passport / biometrics expiry date. We got passport submission request.

We are meeting most of the conditions mentioned in this article where officer may issue long term multiple entry visa:

Up to IRCC how long the visa they but the default is non longer 10 years.

Thanks. Yes, that is my understanding as well. Just trying to understand if in reality anyone has received visa with validity more than 6 months. & if so what percentage?

Highly doubt they’d post the percentage

Each application is assessed now on its own merits versus a blanket 10 year validity

People were thinking they could stay 10 years , or abused there privileges

Plus people’s situations change
