VISA ISSUED...
10/08/2013
Accepted for Geography BA at Memorial University of Newfoundland (winter start). Applied for visa July 31st, expected it to take months (London office usually 2 months apparently, but with the strike thought it would be longer). Visa took 11 days and was processed in Canada.

Obviously really pleased it's sorted so quickly and I can relax for the next 4 months. I guess there is a good lesson to be had here, apply online if possible because it makes it far easier to sent for processing at another office. Looking forward to the next 4 years :D

Just found this thread by looking through your old posts - sorry for stalking. :D

I think that the reason why your study permit was issued so quickly is explained here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2011/ob304.asp

Since you are British and applied online, your application was able to be processed at the Vegreville CPC as per that bulletin. Great to hear that it got done so quickly. :) Do you remember if you looked at this website at the time when you sent in your application? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp I'm Finnish and applied a few days ago. It now lists the processing time relevant to my case as 27 days. That's still much better than the 7 weeks listed for the London office, but since you got yours so fast, I'm now kinda hoping that I might too... :D

I'm British and applied for the permit online on Oct 3rd. The 7-10 week time frame that's being thrown around was making me a little worried about getting it in time for the January start date but this is making me feel a lot better... Congrats on getting yours so quickly! Hopefully mine won't be much longer (although I'll be thankful for anywhere under 7 weeks..11 days sounds pretty great!)

Congrats..!!!

You'll probably get yours very soon. I'm Finnish so my study permit was processed in the same manner as yours, and I got mine in 12 days (applied online).

Just got my POE! 12 Days :D

Haha, congrats! With a sample size n=3 that is statistically very significant, we can conclude that 11-12 days seems to be a standard processing time for online applications from Western and Northern European countries. :D

Not normally of course, it takes around 2 months when the London office isn't striking. But at the moment they're processing the study permit for Western/Northern European very efficiently.

Lucky Brits!
I applied on 6th of sep. On 17th they asked me another form detailing my travels history in the last 5 years. I think they asked for this cause I did a military service. Mutt travels were all in Europe some for work others for leisure. Yet, I haven't got any decision! Damn annoying! Any thought on this?
I live in Sweden with a work visa. Doing this PhD is quite important for me for career success!

Which passport do you hold? Are you visa exempt for Canada? It sucks that you haven't received a decision yet, but your case is still well within the 7 week processing time indicated by the CIC website for the London office...

Nope. Why would I apply for visa if I was visa exempt? :D
What I don't understand is that it took them about 11 days before they scrutinized my application and then they decided OK we need the travel history of this fella. fine by me! Now, any is it taking so long to process further!! Been 29 lengthy days. How long does it really take to go over the last form for good sake!! I don't wanna rant and rave here. What is incomprehensible is someone must have been on the case all he needed to know more was that history he has it now why not making the decision!

Even people from visa exempt countries, such as the UK, need to apply for a study permit to study in Canada for over 6 months at a time. This is often colloquially referred to as just "visa" even though technically a visa is not needed.

Anyway, my suspicion is that they take more time to process study permit/visa applications from citizens of non-visa-exempt countries. You shouldn't get worried until the processing time exceeds the 7 weeks mentioned on the CIC website.

I hope that's the case. There's tons of arrangement I need to do in either case. Hoppas att du få ditt vissaum snart ändå

Hi

Congratulations on your Visa!

I have also applied online on October 7th for a Canada Student Visa from the UK. I was anticipating at least 7 weeks to hear an outcome but after reading your post I'm hoping i'll hear from them earlier.

Im a British Citizen and my husband will be accompanying me, however his passport is Indian but he does have Permanent Residency in the UK. I'm hoping this will not slow down my application.

Did you receive any emails after you had submitted your application advising that your case is being dealt with? Also did they send you your outcome via email?

Im so nervous about my application as my sister and brother in law will be financially supporting us from the UK and theyve paid my tuition fees. Do you think the Visa maybe declined for this reason?

Thanks :)
