Hi,

I’m 19, originally from the UK and currently living in BC with an International Experience Canada visa.

Since moving here I’ve decided that I would love to do a carpentry apprenticeship. I am currently working for a construction company who are willing to take me on as a apprentice.

I can’t find any solid answers anywhere on what type of visa I would need to apply for to be able to study and work the required 1500 hours a year, for 4 years. I plan on applying for permanent residency either after qualifying or during if that’s possible.

Any information would be very appreciated. :)

I am not sure about BC but in AB last time I checked ( with NAIT) all apprenticeship programs are open only for Canadian or Permanent resident not for international student. Maybe other members have more experience with this.
Good luck.

Apprenticeships are extremely difficult to obtain for foreign nationals. Employers still have to apply for a LMIA. The issue revolves around a required work permit and a student visa and the 4 years to complete.
