Hi, I am doing my MEng in Kingston, Ontario. My study permit expires somewhere around the end of August 2015. I just have one last course to complete this Fall and I am planning to do it as a Part Time course because it requires less fee compared to full time. I have not yet applied for an extension but will be getting it done soon. Could someone let me know if doing a course part time would have any effect on my work permit and stuff later? Also, for an extension of visa is it better to apply online or offline? and the last question being, am I too late already to apply for an extension?

Cheers!

Hey,

So it is recommended to apply for an extension at least 30 days before the expiration of the current study permit. You can check CIC website for processing times. However, if you apply before the expiration of your permit, then you are in implied status in case your permit expires before the renewal.

From what I understand, you can be a part time student in your last term before completing your degree so I think you should be fine.

I would recommend applying online as it you can be sure all the documents were received and get updates on the process much faster.

"To obtain a work permit after your graduation, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have studied full time in Canada and you must have completed a program of study that lasted at least eight months."

1. Wrong, you can study part time in your last semester and still get a PGWP.

Yes, I actually have almost completed three full terms here since Fall-2014 till now.
