Visa? - Canadian PR With Indian Passport Travelling To India via China

I am a Canadian PR with an Indian passport and am looking at booking a flight from Canada to India via cheapoair.com

The cheaper option showing is via China. I'm not sure if I can travel visa free via China or If visa would be required. Called cheapoair but they are not sure.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Yes you can my friend is a PR travels all the time on the indian passport.

Why don't you go to nearby Chinese consulate and ask them if you need transit visa?

I called them and they redirected me to talk to the ticket booking company & airline (cheapoair and china airline in this instance, which itself is redirecting me to the Chinese embassy)

Under the 24-hour visa-free transit rule, no visa is required for international flight, ship, or train passengers who transit directly through mainland China and will stay for less than 24 hours. This policy is applicable to almost all nationalities. Most airports are eligible, except the airports in Shenzhen, Yanji, Mudanjiang, and Fuzhou. Passengers should hold tickets to a third country or region and have a confirmed seat.

In case that they want to leave the port for city sightseeing or transfer to another port during the 24 hours, they can apply for a Temporary Stay Permit upon arrival. Those who transfer in more than one city of China within 24 hours can also enjoy this policy. For instance, if one's trip is Los Angeles – Beijing – Shanghai – Bangkok and the total time in China is less than 24 hours, the passenger can still enjoy the 24-hour direct transit.

Not entirely accurate. Transiting (without exit from the customs/airport) should be fine with Indian passport, however when it comes to the temporary stay permit or short term visa at airport service this is available to a select number of developed countries. A Canadian PR has zero effect when it comes to visas in China, you will be handled according to your national passport (India in this case)
