Hi all,

Well I am over the moon we just got a couriered package this morning from SG and my wife's PR has been approved and they are asking her to send her passport and fill out another form (FD11) it appears to be labeled as.

My question is the form is asking to fill out information regarding the Applicant (my wife) her spouse (me of course) and dependents, ok no problem. But on the request for this letter to be filled out it then says to "return it to us with passport(s) for you, your spouse and children" do my son and I really need to include our Canadian passports, I can't imagine why. I assume we do not need to send them but I would hate to screw up this late in the process.

*ADDED* I also note is says that my wife's passport must have 12 months of validity from the date of her most recent medical exam. I hate to be a stickler but do they mean 12 months from the date she took the exam (Dec. 7th, 2010) or do they mean 12 months from the date the exam would expire, which of course would be Dec. 7th 2011. I ask because my wife's passport expires in Feb 2012. It is a one day process to get a new passport in Thailand so no big deal but just want to confirm we are doing the right thing so late in the game.

I must say for all my *censored word*ing about SG and I think others would agree they are wildly inconsistent they received our file on March 17th, put it in process July 17th and couriered the request for Passport on July 20th... pretty darn quick and I am more than satisfied for ourselves but still do feel for those stuck in what seems to be a never ending queue.

Thanks, I don't know that we did anything more than anyone else, as a matter of fact we likely did less than many I think it is just luck of the draw with the VO.

We included about 100 photos about 20 from each year we have known each other. Many of us during travel and with the kids and family. I met my wife in 2005 and we were married in 2007 in the two years before being married I traveled to Thailand 11 times so I included all the details of those visits, flights, hotels etc... beginning in 2006 until now we have taken 12 trips together, Malaysia, SG, HK, Australia twice, Canada twice, a number of local flights to Koh Samui, Chiang Mai etc.. we included all flight details showing us both flying as well as hotel details and reservations and photos from each trip. In the two years prior to moving to Thailand we also included an index of all our email and printed a sample one from each month and made it clear we could provide any further emails upon request. My wife has a very stable background until being married she still lived at her family home so only TWO addresses to include and in her personal history she worked two long term jobs and we included all the English courses she took and passed and computer courses and the fact her job involved speaking to English speaking customers abroad so they would have no doubt about our ability to communicate. My wife has more education than I do so that was never an issue. I am older than her but clearly not enough to bother them.

The only thing I think we did differently and I must say now looking back I would NOT suggest anyone do this, but in the chance you have to detail your relationship history many tell the long story of how they met and how they fell in love and how things progressed etc.. we took a different and as I say I now think more risky tact, I wrote a rather short and to the point letter and more or less said I find it rather insulting that I am being asked to "prove" my life is real. I wondered rhetorically speaking if anyone in the SG office honestly believed that my wife and I have taken a combined 44 flights back and forth to see each other, had children together and traveled the globe for the sole purpose of getting a PR from Canada. At the time I was feeling it was all a rather personal insult that I was being made to jump through these hoops but I don't feel that way anymore I do understand that the checks and balances are in place for a reason and more so after seeing some of the abuse in the system. But again I regret writing the letter in that way as I realize now it might have caused us some short term grief.

Hope that helps.

Congratulations!
You don't need to send your and your child's Canadian passports - it is a form letter, so includes info appropriate to other types of PR visa. And your wife's passport needs 12 months of validity from the time the medical was done.

Ahhh ok, and what about the fact that generally speaking a country likes you to have six months of validity on your passport before you are able to enter? My wife can't do that without flying Aug 12 and unlikely we could make that happen.. do they not care at this point as she is coming to land?
