Hi guys,

My wife is in India and recently got her PPR! So, we are preparing to fly soon. Since she is a bit nervous, I'm going to India to pick her up (and anyway, I can take two empty suitcases to fill up).

I was wondering if anyone can share their experience of landing in Pearson Airport. Can you explain briefly what exactly happened? Where did the applicant go? Can sponsor stay with the applicant while the border officer interviews the applicant? What kind of questions were asked. How long it took. etc.

Also, it would be great if someone shares experience in leaving India too. We have some jewellery that we are bringing over in hand luggage. Did you have trouble in India taking it through security and all? Did you need to provide any receipts etc. Any special questions you were asked about your PR visa at the airport.

This will help us prepare well and keep the nerves down. Hope you guys can help!

Anybody have info?

You'll be able to do MOST of it together, a small part will be just her on her own in Secondary. My husband had that when he landed. He said the only questions he was asked was just to confirm some details on the form, then a few questions around things like whether any of his personal circumstances had changed, etc -- simple stuff, nothing "grilling", the "grilling" portion has already been done in the application process! Make sur eoyu have goods accompanying and goods to follow lists sorted, those parts you can do together at customs.

Can't help with the jewellery part!

Good luck! :)

Thanks so much! Its helpful to know its not that hard :)

Anybody have info about flying from India? I'm sure a ton of us are flying out everyday ;D

The CBSA officer invited me into the office during my partner's landing, so I was with him the whole time. It was all very relaxed and informal. The officer asked him the questions on the COPR and for an address to send the PR card. The officer jokingly asked me if I was OK with him landing as a PR. He spent a few minutes typing some stuff in the computer, they signed the papers and that was it. I'd say we were in the office for about 10 minutes or so.

Yup. Two questions and ten minutes. I was on a different flight (i booked on short notice) that arrived after her so i couldn't join in on the formalities.

Thank you guys! Very helpful info. So looks like Canada side will be easy. Anybody have info about india?

Great, thanks Garry2008!
