Hi there,

Firstly, thanks for all the advice everyone has shared on this forum, always found it pretty helpful.

My partner and I are looking for some peace of mind with regards to our PR application. We don't expect an answer until November but it looks like we will have to leave Canada for family reasons before then. Assuming we are successful and we receive a Confirmation of PR letter while we are abroad, are we able to validate the COPR letter abroad at an embassy? I am concerned that we may have to be home for a few months and will miss the COPR expiry date for returning to Canada. The CIC website gives advice about the option of validating COPR by making an appointment with a local IRCC office (if already in Canada) - could this also apply to a Canadian embassy abroad?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Simple answer is no the COPR has to be validated at a port of entry into Canada or at an office in Canada.

You can have an idea on Likely COPR validity date based on when you completed your medicals.

As said above - no. You must come to Canada to validate the COPR.

If you fail to come to Canada by the COPR expiry date, it will no longer be valid and you'll need to start the process again from scratch.
