Invariably international 'cash withdrawing' facility of Canadian originated Cr.Cards r 'blocked'. U have to call the issuing bank to 'release it' before u move.

Is it just for credit cards or both credit and debit cards

Thanks

Just for Debit Cards, recently CIBC has removed the international usage block from all accounts by introducing visa debit card (quite old thing used them back home in 2001, but new to Canada :-)).

International "Cash Withdrawal" is 'usually' Blocked for both - Cr. & Db. [Visa Electron] Cards... as a security measure*. However, both can be used for 'purchases' abroad, as well as 'online'... but, there's a 'limit' attached to it - based on your Card's valuation.

CIBC debit card works worldwide, you can withdraw money at an ABM( interac ) or use it at a point of sale. Charges are : $ 5 per transaction and 2 1/2 % to the currency conversion. If you use visa card you dont pay that $5 per transaction charges.
